Unknown Pleasure by Peter Hook @ Tivoli 27/09/10

對於不可能看到 Joy Division 的現場表演,這已經是最好的替代品了。一個很有誠意,也很嗨的演出,by Peter Hook。

Unknown Pleasures Resurrected

A Joy Division Celebration with Peter Hook and friends

The year was 1979. A little know band from Manchester, England, was about to deliver an album of moody, melancholic despair, the influence of which can still be felt, heard and seen today. That band was Joy Division and the album was Unknown Pleasures.

To commemorate the 30th Anniversary of Joy Divisions’ seminal debut album Unknown Pleasures, founding member Peter Hook and Friends will perform the album in its entirety in Australia for the first time. The epic show will include live performances of all of the songs from the album including She’s Lost Control, New Dawn Fades and Disorder. Audiences will also be treated to performances of other early Joy Division tracks, as well as the classic non-album singles Transmission and Love Will Tear Us Apart.

I always like Peter Hook more than Bernard Sumner, because Peter Hook loves Joy Division more than New Order, like me. Once you're shadowed by Ian Curtis' darkness, you wouldn't want to get out, at least I wouldn't. But... who's gonna sing it??? Hooky? Anyway I personally think Peter Hook playing the shows is in favour for any Joy Division fans. He doesn't need to, or maybe he'd love to, I don't know. All I know is, I can't miss this chance of a life time, and I got the ticket already.

10 Songs About Me

it's not easy... to describe myself in 10 songs.
i have so many songs i could relate to but yeah...
these are not my top 10 favourite songs, but they're all great!
these are 10 songs about me, obviously from lyrical content.

1. Guided By Voices - I Am A Scientist
2. The Replacements - Swingin' Party
3. The Jesus And Mary Chain - Never Understand

4. Joy Division - New Dawn Fades
5. The Smiths - Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now
6. The Replacements - Unsatisfied
7. Neil Young - Oh, Lonesome Me
8. Tricky - Overcome
9. New Order - Regret

10. Pavement - Range Life

I Wish I Was There

My Bloody Valentine 1991
- After the release of Loveless. I really don't mind to be deaf after seeing them.

The Smiths 1987
- After the release of Louder Than Bombs. They have so many good songs... Jeez!

The Replacements 1986
- Before Bob leaves the band. I don't care if they're drunk or sober, I wanna see them!

The Jesus and Mary Chain 1986
- I want to see the riots, and the JAMC when they are young, rebellious, noisy and don't give a fuck. Now they're old.

Joy Division 1980
- Anytime, anywhere before the death of Ian Curtis...

Woodstock 1969
- Love, Peace and Music.

The Velvet Underground 1968
- After the release of White Light/White Heat, and before John Cale leaves the band. Raw and noisy. I want to experience their unique live performance!

My Bloody Valentine - Glider/When You Sleep live (1991)
The Smiths - Ask live (1987)
(The way Moz and Marr dance is so cute...XD)

Recent Buys

Radio City LP and #1 Record LP by Big Star

The Pains of Being Pure at Heart LP and Higher Than The Stars 12''. Even a poster of Higher Than The Stars. I think it has The Smiths' cover feel.

Doolittle LP and Surfer Rosa LP by The Pixies. Great albums.

Why did I buy the one with the weird gate, and not the statue one? The original one looks much better! Glad that I only bought the 7'' one.

(front) (back)
I'm so happy that I bought this one. Though not original, but this 2 LP set contains Ectasy and Wine EP, Feed Me With Your Kisses EP and You Made Me Realise EP. Fucking awesome!

I bought these two in the second-hand vinyl store. My Charlie Sexton has stain on his face, but it's okay. The sound is good. INXS is in good quality, but none of songs on it are as good as Don't Change.

Atmosphere

Walk in silence
Don't walk away, in silence
See the danger
Always danger
Endless talking
Life rebuilding
Don't walk away

Walk in silence
Don't turn away, in silence
Your confusion
My illusion
Worn like a mask of self-hate
Confronts and then dies
Don't walk away

People like you find it easy
Naked to see
Walking on air
Hunting by the rivers
Through the streets
Every corner abandoned too soon
Set down with due care
Don't walk away in silence
Don't walk away

I think the music itself is amazing. Truly amazing.
The lyrics are haunting. "always danger", "endless talking, life rebuilding", "worn like a mask of self-fate, confronts and then dies"... genius lyrics!
The music is so goddamn beautiful, that it hurts.
I listen to it when I feel like getting hurt.

Vestax Handy Trax

Unknown Pleasure

Control

My heart leaps up when I behold
A rainbow in the sky
So it was my life began
So is it now I am a man
So it be when I shall grow old
Or let me die

The child is the father of the man
And I could wish my days to be
Bound each to each by natural piety
by William Wordsworth

So this is permanence; love-shattered pride.
What once was innocence, has turned on its side.
A cloud hangs over me; marks every move
Deep in the memory of what once was love
by Ian Curtis from Twenty Four Hours' lyrics

Disorder

I've been waiting for a guide to come and take me by the hand,
Could these sensations make me feel the pleasures of a normal man?
These sensations barely interest me for another day,
I've got the spirit, lose the feeling, take the shock away.

It's getting faster, moving faster now, it's getting out of hand,
On the tenth floor, down the back stairs, it's a no man's land,
Lights are flashing, cars are crashing, getting frequent now,
I've got the spirit, lose the feeling, let it out somehow.

What means to you, what means to me, and we will meet again,
I'm watching you, I'm watching her, I'll take no pity from you friends,
Who is right, who can tell, and who gives a damn right now,
Until the spirit new sensation takes hold, then you know,
Until the spirit new sensation takes hold, then you know,
Until the spirit new sensation takes hold, then you know,
I've got the spirit, but lose the feeling,
I've got the spirit, but lose the feeling,
Feeling, feeling, feeling, feeling, feeling, feeling, feeling.

First song from Joy Division's First Album, Unknown Pleasure
What a brilliant song! I mean the music and the lyrics, oh my!
This song makes so much sense to me. Disorder...

Peter Saville

Peter Saville is famous for the design of record sleeves for Factory Records artists, most notably for Joy Division and New Order. These sleeves are beautiful, it really makes the vinyl album more collectable in my personal opinion.

New Dawn Fades

A change of speed, a change of style.
A change of scene, with no regrets,
A chance to watch, admire the distance,
Still occupied, though you forget.

Different colours, different shades,
Over each mistakes were made.
I took the blame.
Directionless so plain to see,
A loaded gun won't set you free.
So you say.

We'll share a drink and step outside,
An angry voice and one who cried,
'We'll give you everything and more,
The strain's too much, can't take much more.'

Oh, I've walked on water, run through fire,
Can't seem to feel it anymore.
It was me, waiting for me,
Hoping for something more,
Me, seeing me this time, hoping for something else.

from Joy Division's debut album, Unknown Pleasure
Joy Division is my favourite band, and Ian is my hero.
I really love this song. I don't know how to describe it.
Let the song speak for itself...
And it indeed touched a lot of people, Moby, John Frusciante (RHCP guitarist), and plenty more
