I Wish I Was There

My Bloody Valentine 1991
- After the release of Loveless. I really don't mind to be deaf after seeing them.

The Smiths 1987
- After the release of Louder Than Bombs. They have so many good songs... Jeez!

The Replacements 1986
- Before Bob leaves the band. I don't care if they're drunk or sober, I wanna see them!

The Jesus and Mary Chain 1986
- I want to see the riots, and the JAMC when they are young, rebellious, noisy and don't give a fuck. Now they're old.

Joy Division 1980
- Anytime, anywhere before the death of Ian Curtis...

Woodstock 1969
- Love, Peace and Music.

The Velvet Underground 1968
- After the release of White Light/White Heat, and before John Cale leaves the band. Raw and noisy. I want to experience their unique live performance!

My Bloody Valentine - Glider/When You Sleep live (1991)
The Smiths - Ask live (1987)
(The way Moz and Marr dance is so cute...XD)

幹! 怎麼這麼多好音樂啊! 聽不完啊!!!

new:
廣仲 七天
Miami Horror Sometimes -> awesome new single!

old:
Dustin's Bar Mitzvah -> so good and so underrated! thanks to youtube and myspace, i could still find them. they released an album in 2006 and disbanded. now no one seems to remember them or even heard of them... since it's impossible to find their music online, I bought the CD online. waiting for its arrival, so I won't have to listen to them on youtube...
Orange Juice -> rip it up and start again~

Phrazes For The Young

Julian Casablancas is still so fuckin' cool.

Emmy The Great

I think I'm in love...
such a beautiful song... heartbreaking!
so cute!
And my friend you are not
And I hate you as much as I miss you
such a cute video and song!
i know my fate i do not mean to fight but you tread softly on the ground tonight tread softly on the words you used to write
love this song so much! the way she sings chorus is perfect
In the air, a sea of words that didn't come soon enough ...
i love the lyrics and the song
The city called me so I came It isn't mine to question what it said

Well the morning fills my mouth up with decay I like it, it reminds me how you taste
Another great song by Emmy, so bitter and so sweet
I will be brave I will pour whiskey on your grave Smoke cigarettes amongst the stones Sprinkle champagne upon your bones If burial restricts your view I'll bring the city here to you I'll pack the river and the clock Wrap it into a picnic box
this is probably the best song about car accidents. so good...
the day that we took out a car in the rain is the day you forgot how to brake and see how quickly the picture will change filled with fingers and voices and teeth
I am the wisest man alive, for I know one thing, and that is that I know nothing.
Socrates

All The Images

"When I started making movies, there were 'movies' movies. Now 'movies' seems to be commercials, music videos, images off the Internet, there's all this imagery now."
Leos Carax
this is a great post!

The problem of the image isn't gonna go away; if cinema's to survive, it has to get worse. Now more than ever, I think, it's possible to equate cinema with music, in the sense that, in a world where everything makes a noise, where there are all of these sounds that surround us and that may hold significance in our lives (this may be someone's voice or even the noise of your car's engine, which becomes as familiar as a voice until you can tell its mood), it's a plain old song that can sometimes overtake you. The more noise, the more extraordinary music seems to be, and the same thing happens to cinema in a world where everything produces an image.

Nothingness Is The Real Perfection

Today is a good day for you. ... I congratulate you! ... It's better to knock it all down and strew the ground with salt, as the ancients did, to purify their battlefields. ... What we really need is some hygiene, some cleanliness, some disinfection. ... Anyone who deserves to be called an artist should be asked to make this single act of faith: to educate oneself to silence. Do you remember Mallarmé's praise of the blank page? And Rimbaud ... do you know what his finest poetry was? His refusal to continue writing and his departure for Africa. ... Nothingness is the real perfection.

Rudin

‘I thought,’ began African Semenitch slowly, ‘that there are three kinds of egoists; the egoists who live themselves and let others live; the egoists who live themselves and don’t let others live; and the egoists who don’t live themselves and don’t let others live. Women, for the most part, belong to the third class.’

‘That’s polite! I am very much astonished at one thing, African Semenitch; your confidence in your convictions; of course you can never be mistaken.’

‘Who says so? I make mistakes; a man, too, may be mistaken. But do you know the difference between a man’s mistakes and a woman’s? Don’t you know? Well, here it is; a man may say, for example, that twice two makes not four, but five, or three and a half; but a woman will say that twice two makes a wax candle.’
Above is the best metaphor I've ever heard about the difference between man and woman.

Рудин Written by Ivan Turgenev in 1855. This is a great book about a superfluous man who talks so nicely just about everything, but all that means nothing. He doesn't do anything. This book also nails on the subjects that I'm interested: man vs. woman, intellectuals vs. upper social class, rich vs. poor, the ones who do without talking vs. the ones who talk without doing anything...

Be Happy

I've tried really hard to put this together. There are not many happy pop songs , but these songs are super happy and positive! Listening to it in the morning makes me feel so happy and makes want to swing!

1. Acid House Kings - Summer's On It's Way
2. The Cure - Mint Car
3. Felt - Don't Die On My Doorstep
4. Camera Obscura - Let's Get Out Of This Country
5. Leslies - Take A Look
6. Belle & Sebastian - The Blues Are Still Blue
7. The Lucksmiths - Sunlight in a Jar
8. Saturday Looks Good To Me - Lift Me Up
9. Magnetic Fields - You and Me and the Moon

Two Michelangelo Antonioni Films

L'eclisse (1962)

To be honest, I don't have much to say about Michelangelo Antonioni's films. His films are more like meditations rather than entertainments. In his films, there are always some outsiders wandering around the empty urban streets. But his visual style is terrific. Almost every single frame can be a beautiful picture. Now, the next movie for me will be the first of the trilogy L'Avventura.

Sans Soleil / Sunless

In a way, this is a masterpiece about post-modernity.
This is not a documentary and definitely not an ordinary movie.
It needs no classification. It's finest art and poetry.
It is whatever it is on Chris Marker's mind.
The way he put them together is fucking brilliant.
The images and narrations are so well put together.
It makes you think, about society, culture, humanity...
I absolutely adore this.
The Criterion Collection is best!

Johnny Suede

Three things I like about this film:
  1. Brad Pitt's hairstyle.
  2. Nick Cave's appearance.
  3. Surrealistic Animals.
The rest is bad...

Embrace The Senile Genius

I love the album version of Here, but this is a cool version of the song!

Lake Heartbeat

Another Swedish act, another great pop band. Myspace.

Overcome

You sure you want to be with me?
I've nothing to give.
Won't lie and say this loving's best.

Sea Water

I love how sea water thickens my hair.
I love how ocean feels so peaceful in the early morning.
I love how seagulls fly over my head.
I love how warm the water is in the pond.
I love how I swim with fishes in the sea.
I love how sun shines on me, the only warmth in cold water.
I'm in love with the beautiful beach, ocean and the world.

Things Will Never Be The Same Again

Warmer Climes - is this a jj's blog?

Cry Baby Cry

You and I fall together
You and I sleep alone
After all, things might be better
after 1, and there's one that's long gone

For the moon you keep shootin'
Throw your rope up in the air
For the kids you stay together
You nap 'em and you slap 'em in a highchair
All you ever wanted was someone to take care of ya
All you're ever losin' is a little mascara

Afternoon, things are quiet
Settle back now if you can
Stations clip by like a rocket
Don't you worry if you wonder why he ran

All you ever wanted was someone to take care of ya
All you're ever losin' is a little mascara
that you cry (3x)
your eyes out

All you ever wanted was someone might be scared of
All your ever losin' is
A little mascara
That you cry

(can't believe this fucking great song is not online, I have to upload myself...)

Barton Fink

Songs Reminds Me of Us

Every relationship has its soundtracks. Those songs remind me of the time I've spent with that someone. You loved The Velvet Underground's Venus In Furs, because you thought it sounds weird. I played you John Legend's Ordinary People while we were walking around the museum. You loved how I sang Josh Rouse's Sweetie. You laughed when you see me lost myself to Joy Divison's Transmission and love. We laughed, we cried, we hugged, we kissed, we made believes, we thought what we had was the best, we realised that it was only a part of the process.

The Story of an Artist

This one is for you, my friend. You and your troubled soul.
This is the Late Great Daniel Johnston: Discovered Covered.

Here Comes A Regular

And everybody wants to be special here
They call your name out loud and clear
Here comes a regular
Call out your name
Here comes a regular
Am I the only one here today?

Flashdance

if you watch this clip, then you probably have seen the half of the film. yeah the movie is kind of crap. but I love the energy and passion this young girl has for life. it's something I lack... i think it's what the whole generation lacks too. Flashdance (1983)

For Whom the Bell Tolls (1943)

- Ingrid Bergman is really great. Beautiful and sincere.
- Pilar played by Katina Paxinou is really a terrific character.
- Very Hollywood, but not bad at all...
- The quotes are hopelessly romantic. "I love you enough for both of us..."
that blinds a man while he loves you. He thinks you are beautiful. And one day for no reason at all he sees you ugly as you really are. And he is not blind anymore. Then you see yourself as ugly as he sees you - and you lose your man and your feeling. Then one day the feeling, that idiotic feeling that you are beautiful, grows inside you again and another man sees you and thinks you are beautiful and it's all to do over again. Now I'm past it. But it still might come again.

Stranger Than Paradise (1984)

I really like this movie, and this kind of humor. It's not even black humor, it's "dead" humor. But it's great! This is a very slow film. As you watch how the actors react and behave, you get to understand the characters, their values, beliefs more and more...but slowly. Anyway, I think it's a very good cinematic experience. I really like the awkwardness in his film!

I'm waiting, waiting, waiting...

幹!!!!! Pavement 2010也要來澳洲!!!!!
這豈不是太爽啦, 希望這是真的真的!!!
Pavement announce Australian tour!?

Recent Buys

Radio City LP and #1 Record LP by Big Star

The Pains of Being Pure at Heart LP and Higher Than The Stars 12''. Even a poster of Higher Than The Stars. I think it has The Smiths' cover feel.

Doolittle LP and Surfer Rosa LP by The Pixies. Great albums.

Why did I buy the one with the weird gate, and not the statue one? The original one looks much better! Glad that I only bought the 7'' one.

(front) (back)
I'm so happy that I bought this one. Though not original, but this 2 LP set contains Ectasy and Wine EP, Feed Me With Your Kisses EP and You Made Me Realise EP. Fucking awesome!

I bought these two in the second-hand vinyl store. My Charlie Sexton has stain on his face, but it's okay. The sound is good. INXS is in good quality, but none of songs on it are as good as Don't Change.

No Budget

Eighties Fan

I think I am really an eighties fan.
I love almost everything comes out during that time. Say Anything. The Smiths. The Jesus and Mary Chain. The Cure. The Stone Roses. Flashdance. Dirty Dancing. The Replacements. The Big Chill. Sonic Youth. Soft Cell. Felt. New Order. My Bloody Valentine. Marvin Gaye. Blondie. OMD. The Pastels. E.T. Forever Young. The Terminator. Predator. The Breakfast Club. Back To The Future. A Flock of Seagulls. C-86. Culture Club. Gang Of Four. The Go-Betweens. INXS. Lou Reed. David Bowie. Talking Heads. Bow Wow Wow. Depeche Mode. Talk Talk...fuck, too many to name.

A Letter To Elise

This song is so good. Same as Trust, from the 1992 album, Wish.

Oh Elise it doesn't matter what you say
I just can't stay here every yesterday
Like keep on acting out the same
The way we act out
Every way to smile
Forget
And make-believe we never needed
Any more than this
Any more than this

Oh Elise it doesn't matter what you do
I know I'll never really get inside of you
To make your eyes catch fire
The way they should
The way the blue could pull me in
If they only would
If they only would
At least I'd lose this sense of sensing something else
That hides away
From me and you
There're worlds to part
With aching looks and breaking hearts
And all the prayers your hands can make
Oh I just take as much as you can throw
And then throw it all away
Oh I throw it all away
Like throwing faces at the sky
Like throwing arms round
Yesterday
I stood and stared
Wide-eyed in front of you
And the face I saw looked back
The way I wanted to
But I just can't hold my tears away
The way you do

Elise believe I never wanted this
I thought this time I'd keep all of my promises
I thought you were the girl I always dreamed about
But I let the dream go
And the promises broke
And the make-believe ran out...

So Elise
It doesn't matter what you say
I just can't stay here every yesterday
Like keep on acting out the same
The way we act out
Every way to smile
Forget
And make-believe we never needed
Any more than this
Any more than this

And every time I try to pick it up
Like falling sand
As fast as I pick it up
It runs away through my clutching hands
But there's nothing else I can really do
There's nothing else I can really do
There's nothing else
I can really do
At all...

Julie Christie

Julie Christie, the rumors are true...
If I had one day when I didn't have to be all confused, and I didn't have to feel that I was ashamed of everything. If I felt that I belonged someplace. You know?
Live alone in the paradise, makes me think of two.
Love lost, such a cost. Give me the things that won't get lost.

Trust

there's no-one left in the world
that i can hold onto
there is really no-one left at all
there is only you
and if you leave me now
you leave all that we were undone
there is really no-one left
you are the only one
and still the hardest part for you
to put your trust in me
i love you more than i can say
why won't you just believe?

靠,聽到我都想哭了...這首歌真的淒美的不行。
聽 The Cure,真的不能只聽精選集!
還有這首歌為甚麼會放在 Friday I'm In Love 後面?
情緒需要改變這麼大嗎?

Chinatown (1974)

A classic mystery movie, with good plot and dialogue.
Except for the "screwing like a chinaman joke", I really don't get it.
And slightly overrated in my opinion...
The ending made this film more remarkable.

Punch Your Weight

I’m okay looking, average height, not skinny, not fat. My genius, if I can call it that, is to combine a whole load of averageness into one compact frame.

Run Lola Run

Breath-taking. Heart-breaking. Glass-breaking!
Tom Tykwer shows originality, creativity and ambition all in this film. Great movie. I love it! I love the soundtrack music too.

Be Humble

"Whenever you feel like criticizing any one... just remember that all the people in this world haven't had the advantages that you've had."
- F. Scott Fitzgerald,
The Great Gatsby, Ch. 1

Punk's Not Dead!

In the days of boredom, we need excitements like the Ramones.
"Hey Ho! Let's Go!Hey Ho! Let's Go!Hey Ho! Let's Go!"

Boy Meets Girl (1984)

a very beautiful film, very French new wave, but very loose.
this is Leos Carax's first film, and the first one of the 'Alex Trilogy'.
I can't say that I like it a lot, but not a bad film overall.
