Director/Writer: Jim Jarmusch
Cast: Johnny Depp, Gary Farmer, Iggy Pop and Crispin Glover
Music: Neil Young
Year: 1995
IMDB
My Rating: 7/10
The images are hauntingly beautiful. At the start of the film, I'm pretty sure Jim Jarmusch stole parts of the beginning from Kafka's The Castle. Instead of exploring the mysteries of bureaucracy, he chose to explore the mysterious wild wild west. Neil Young's soundtrack music added another depth and layer to the film. Johnny Depp's acting is great, kind of like scissor-hand Edward, a modestly awkward or awkwardly modest guy. I like him better when he's crazier. Perhaps, the film is a bit too ambiguous for me to figure out what's the point of it. Probably not much, just another Jim-Jarmusch-style comedy.

I've always wanted to see this film, but not desperate enough to go find it. Last weekend, it just popped up on my TV channel, so I watched it. I like it. Joyful and moving. His reminiscent and monologues blend into one beautiful poem of his life. The music was awesome. Actresses are beautiful. A great film.

Ozu. It all comes back to Ozu. Life, family, relationships.
I'm not an admirer of Ozu, but I appreciate Ozu's vision of family.
And I appreciate Denis' appreciation towards Ozu.
Family Tree
You have to learn how to look!'
