Director: Wayne Wang
Writer: Paul Auster
Cast: Harvey Keitel, William Hurt and Forest Whitaker
Year: 1995
IMDB
My Rating: 8/10
The plot of this movie, like smoke itself, drifts and swirls ethereally. Characters and subplots are deftly woven into a tapestry of stories and pictures which only slowly emerges to our view. Typical Paul Auster? I don't know...
I love the fact that both this movie and Blue In The Face share the same setting and principal cast. Harvey is perfect as Auggie, a tobacco store owner in the Brooklyn neighborhood. I think... I read story to get to know people, not necessarily the story itself. In another words, I like character-driven story. And this is one of those films.
